With two trainers, Mr Trevor Painter and Ms Jenny Meadows, Keely Hodgkinson, who runs at Loughborough University, trains every day to improve the quality of her running through distance training. As a result of this training style, she runs between 30 and 40 miles a week, which allows her to minimise her risk of injury and adapt to training for distance efficiently.

Keely’s training consists primarily of sprint-type sessions with 200m repeats and split times on 800m with short recovery periods between intervals. By focusing on sprint workouts, Keely hopes to attain times in the low 52-second range when she competes in the 400m event. Additionally, Keely cross-trains on a cycle or rower, does strength work in the weight room, and trains at high altitudes in the Pyrenees.

During the winter months, she puts a larger emphasis on recovery, and she incorporates hill sessions into her training, in addition to working on her technique.

In the summer months, her track workouts increase in pace, but she does not run full 800m events.
